Agios Prokopios beach Naxos

Agios Prokopios Beach

Agios Prokopios lies right after Saint George’s beach and it is approximately 5.7 kilometres from Naxos Town, which is why many people choose to take a leisurely walk there or get there by bike. Awarded for its quality waters on both a Greek and international level, the beach of Agios Prokopios is truly magnificent. Right behind the beach and towards its northern end there lie the remains of a salt pan which was part of an industry many decades ago.

This long beach of light coloured thick sand has bright turquoise waters and its natural beauty is such that it attracts many visitors making it the 2nd most popular beach of Naxos. Its unique colour and surroundings are what makes some people think of Agios Prokopios as a giant swimming pool.

Agios Prokopios is definitely the area to stay, eat and have fun from early till late.

The beach is well organized, with umbrellas and sun-beds almost everywhere except its northern section. During summer, the beach is packed with young people who enjoy its crystal clear waters and prefer its café-bars for their all day entertainment. Nowadays, there are only a few naturists in the area (a few years back you would find many more), gathered mainly at the northern end of the beach, away from less bold souls.

The beach of Agios Prokopios also gathers some summer sports lovers who enjoy windsurfing, banana tubing and beach volley. However, it is not the best beach for summer sports.

A wide variety of hotels and apartments for every taste and budget can be found at Agios Prokopios. One can find a place to stay from basic accommodation to luxury resorts. Some of them have wonderful sea view while others are gentler on the pocket and located the village. This is a very popular holiday resort gathering many tourists each year since it offers just about everything, from delicious local dishes to beachfront sundowners and cocktails.

The village of Agios Prokopios itself has many restaurants, taverns and snack bars. Motorbikes and ATVs can also be rented there. There are currently no car rentals in the area, however, you may rent a car from Naxos Town and have it delivered to Agios Prokopios at no extra charge during working hours.

Public transportation is very regular, especially during the high season. This is the most common way to get to Aghios Prokopios as it is quite hard to get a parking spot during July and August and you will also likely encounter quite a bit of traffic due to the village’s narrow streets.
